Suspect who allegedly assaulted officers captured in Banks County

The man who allegedly struck two Franklin County patrol cars while fleeing in a vehicle Sunday night was arrested shortly after 3:30 p.m.

That followed a continuous search for the man, focusing on Banks County throughout the day Monday.

Banks County Sheriff’s Capt. Carissa McFaddin said the search was concentrated in the area of Dodd Road, Highway 164 and I-85 just before 3 p.m.

Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said the man left a child in the car after a crash during Sunday night’s chase.

“He has felony warrants,” Franklin County Sheriff Steve Thomas said. “He is also on two probations.”

When a Banks County deputy spotted the man walking on Interstate 85 Monday morning, he fled into the woods.

Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 units and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter responded to assist with the search.

“Deputies were attempting to stop him for traveling northbound at a high rate of speed,” Thomas said of how Sunday night’s chase began. “He struck two patrol cars and had a small child in the vehicle.”

Deputies also were joined in the search by the Georgia State Patrol, Motor Carrier Compliance units and Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
