Rainy weather strikes again for some area raceways

By Brandon Reed Reporter

For the second straight week, Mother Nature was not kind to some area tracks and racing series, as stormy weather on Friday and Saturday led several to cancel their events.

Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags saw the rainy weather wash out the night’s racing on the race track’s pit road drag strip. Racing is next slated for Friday, July 26. Visit AtlantaMotorSpeedway.com for more information.

Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, South Carolina also had their planned Limited Late Model double feature succumb to the rainy weather. The track returns to action on Friday, July 26. Check AndersonMotorSpeedway.com for updates.

Georgia’s Toccoa Speedway on Thursday night and Senoia Raceway on Friday night were scheduled to host the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series, but both events came up short thanks to the rain. For updates on the series, visit SouthernNationalsSeries.com.

Toccoa Speedway was also scheduled for a regular night of racing on Saturday, but the weather forecast led track officials to cancel the night’s events early Saturday afternoon. Toccoa returns to action on Saturday, July 27. Check ToccoaRaceway.com for more information.

The Southern Super Series was slated to compete on Friday night at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. Rains moved in over the speedway about an hour before race time, and were persistent enough to lead series and track officials to postpone the event. The race will now be run on Friday, July 26. Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia seemed to be on target for a big race night, but showers and lightning rolled into the area right around 8 o’clock Saturday, leading track officials to cancel the event. It wasn’t weather, but rather a medical emergency by a track official that led Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia to postpone their Saturday night event. For schedule updates, visit BoydsSpeedway.com.
