Rain ruins weekend racing plans for area speedways

After several weeks of good weather, Mother Nature again took a hand this weekend, as rain washed out planned events at several race tracks across the south over the weekend.

Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway almost snuck past the wet weather, but a downpour rolled through the area just before 6 pm on Saturday, leading track officials to call the event. Racing is scheduled to return to the 3/8-mile clay raceway on Saturday, July 20. Visit Hartwell-Speedway.com for more information.

Also almost sneaking past Mother Nature was Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway on Saturday, but an intense late afternoon shower also put the kibosh on racing plans. The ¼-mile clay raceway returns to action on Saturday, July 20. Check WinderBarrowSpeedway.net for updates.

Georgia’s historic Toccoa Raceway made the call on Friday to cancel the planned Saturday night events after seeing the forecast for raceway. Action returns on Saturday, July 20. For more information, visit ToccoaRaceway.com.

Also making the early call was Georgia’s Lavonia Speedway, who was slated to hold a demolition derby on Saturday night. Up next will be a return to the track’s traditional Friday night action on July 19. Check LavoniaSpeedway.net for more information.

Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia was slated to host the USCS Sprint Car Series on Saturday, but series officials made the decision earlier in the week to postpone the event due to the forecaster weather. Dixie returns to action on Saturday, July 20. Visit DixieSpeedway.com for updated information.

The double points night slated for Saturday at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway also fell victim to the wet weather. Action returns on Friday, July 19, as the track hosts the Schaffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series for the 5th annual Billy Clanton Classic. For more information, visit SenoiaRaceway.com.

Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia also saw the weather shut down racing plans. Action returns to the 1/3-mile clay raceway on Saturday, July 20. Check BoydsSpeedway.nett for updates.

Rain also caused issues for asphalt racers, as Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Easley, South Carolina had to cancel their scheduled events. The fast half-mile raceway is next scheduled to race on Saturday, July 20. For updates, visit GreenvillePickens.com.
