John Barnette Edmonds, 30, of Cornelia, faces charges of first-degree arson for allegedly setting fire to a home at 167 Slayton St., Cornelia, on July 2.
The single-story, 1,000-square-foot, wood-frame home was around 80 years old.
Edmonds’ booking report shows his address as the home where the alleged arson was committed.
Investigators with the Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office, assisted by Cornelia police and fire departments, handled the investigation.
First-degree arson is a felony and is punishable by a fine of up to $50,000 and/or up to 20 years in prison.
Edmonds already was incarcerated on unrelated charges at the time the arson charge was filed. He currently is being held at the Habersham County Detention Center in Clarkesville awaiting a bond hearing.
Edmonds was arrested July 4 on felony charges of aggravated assault and robbery in a separate incident.
Slayton Street is located off Level Grove Road a short distance from Fieldale in Cornelia.
