Atlanta United looks to climb Eastern standings against Montreal

ATLANTA — Atlanta United returns to action Saturday when it hosts Montreal Impact at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta is 3-1-0 all-time versus Montreal and has won both matches played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium: 2-0 in September 2017 and 4-1 in April 2018. Montreal enters the match in second place in the Eastern Conference standings while Atlanta sits in fourth.

Atlanta is coming off a 3-2 loss to Toronto FC at BMO Field on Wednesday night. Gonzalo Martinez and Julian Gressel scored their second and third goals of the season, but a stoppage time penalty from Alejandro Pozuelo for his second goal of the game proved to be the game-winner. Since 2018, Atlanta is 8-1-2 following a defeat. In those 11 matches, Atlanta has outscored the opposition 21-7.

Montreal defeated Portland Timbers 2-1 on Wednesday behind a brace from forward Orji Okwonkwo for its second consecutive win. Saphir Taider leads the Impact with seven goals and Maxi Urruti has tallied a team-high five assists. Montreal is 4-5-2 on the road in 2019.
