Haley edges Johnson for Hartwell Limited Late Model win

By Brandon Reed Reporter

Brandon Haley scored his second straight victory at Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway on Saturday night – but it was far from a walk in the park.

With rain threatening in the area, the Lavonia, Georgia native had to battle hard to hold off Jimmy Johnson over the course of the Limited Late Model feature to get the win on the 3/8-mile clay raceway.

Haley started the night by setting fast time in qualifying, and would convert that to an early lead on the drop of the green flag.

From there, Haley would build a large lead, only to see it evaporate around the halfway when Johnson, who started on the outside of the front row, close rapidly.

Over the waning laps, the two pitched a heated duel, with Johnson trying time and again to find daylight around the leader. But when Johnson’s car slid high and lost ground with just a handful of laps to go, Haley powered away to the victory.

Johnson would have to settle for second, with Grant Jordan in third, Scotty Chatham in fourth and Chris Segars in fifth.

In other action, Adam Smith drove away from Danny Sanders en route to the Crate Late Model victory. Sanders finished in second, with Cody Pritchett in third and Brandon Haley in fourth.

The Hobby feature saw Shane Yarbrough come out on top of a heated battle with Joe Yarbrough for the win. Wayne Scott was third, followed by Colby Jordan in fourth and Andrew Doster in fifth.

Ty Nalley dominated the Modified Street feature en route to the win. Joe Nash, Cal Moon, Smokey Roberts and Johnny Pilgrim rounded out the top five.

Evan Brown edged out Rocky Jones for the win in the Stock V8 feature, with Tyler Kennedy rounding out the podium.

Stanley Hill took the Open Wheel Modified feature victory. Zack Minielly came home in second, with Keith Baker in third, Dwayne McCannon in fourth and Matthew Wall in fifth.

Ryan Baker scored the win in the Young Guns feature, with Tanner Nation in second, Logan Gunter in third and Alyssa Goldsmith in fourth.

Brent Couch was victorious in the Stock 4 feature, as Dustin Bailes and Pete Whitley rounded out the podium.

J.J. Sorrow was the winner in the Front Wheel Drive feature, with Joel Powell, Sr. second, Alex Powell third, Dillon Christian fourth and Kalen Holmes fifth.
