Two children died and six other people were treated at the hospital following a late-night crash in the Norcross area.
Gwinnett County police said the crash was called in to the 911 Center shortly after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19.
The crash took place on Steve Reynolds Boulevard near Windward Lane in unincorporated Norcross, according to information released by Cpl. Michele Pihera. She issued a timeline of events in the crash:
- Cindy Catalan-Ordonez (age 28, Duluth) was driving a silver Mitsubishi Endeavor. She was traveling northbound on Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
- Rithy Kim (age 38, Stone Mountain) was driving a white Toyota Rav 4. He was traveling southbound on Steve Reynolds Boulevard. There were three other occupants in the vehicle with him: Rachana Tep (age 37), Vincent Kim (age 8), and Kristin Kim (age 14).
- Jaleia Foxx (age 22, Norcross) was driving a gold Honda Civic. She was traveling behind the white Toyota Rav 4 going southbound on Steve Reynolds Boulevard. There were two other occupants in the vehicle: Janelle Roberson (age 22) and Emma Foxx (age 1).
According to investigators, Catalan-Ordonez crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the Toyota Rav 4 being driven by Kim head-on. The Toyota was pushed backwards into the gold Honda Civic.
All the drivers and passengers were transported to a local hospital with varying levels of injuries, according to Pihera. Vincent Kim and Kristin Kim died as a result of their injuries.
Pihera said Catalan-Ordonez was charged Thursday afternoon with two counts of homicide by vehicle, one count of vehicles to drive on right side of roadway and one count of reckless driving. Pihera said she will be booked into the Gwinnett County Jail once she is released from the hospital.
