Rainy weekend sees several tracks cancel racing plans

After a couple of rain free weeks, Mother Nature returned with a vengeance this past weekend, washing out several scheduled racing events across the region.

Georgia’s historic Toccoa Raceway was set to host the Grifco 602 Thunder Series on Saturday night, but the rainy forecast led track and series officials to postpone the event to Saturday, June 15. Check ToccoaRaceway.com for updates.

Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags was washed out by the heavy rains that rolled through the Hampton, Georgia area late Friday afternoon. The jet truck slated for exhibition runs has been rescheduled to July 26, while the next Friday Night Drags is scheduled for Friday, June 14. Visit AtlantaMotorSpeedway.com for more information.

Georgia’s Hartwell Speedway was scheduled for a regular weekly show on Saturday, but the torrential rain and thunderstorms that roared through the area washed out the night’s action. Georgia’s Senoia Raceway was scheduled to hold its 50th birthday celebration on Saturday, but the wet weather put the kibosh on the party. The speedway is scheduled to host the “Summer Sizzler” on Saturday, June 15. Visit SenoiaRaceway.com for further updates.

The Southern All Series was slated to make a pair of stops in the Peach State over the weekend, starting on Friday at Oglethorpe Speedway in Pooler, Georgia before moving on to Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia on Saturday, June 8. But the wet weather forecast led officials to cancel the events. Up next for the series is a trip to Georgia’s Senoia for the Michael Head Jr. Memorial on Saturday, June 22.
