RICHMOND, Ky. - Michael Chilton held off several challenges to score the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series feature in Saturday night’s Mike Roland Memorial at Kentucky’s Richmond Raceway.
The Salvisa, Kentucky native recorded his second career series victory by topping the field at the 3/8-mile speedway for a $6,000 payday.
Chilton started on the pole, and would jump to the early lead. His first challenge came early, as John Ownbey jumped to the top side of the track at the start and was side-by-side with Chilton after one lap. On lap two, Ownbey spun in turn three, sending him back to the rear of the field hurting his chances for a win.
Chilton’s next came under fire from four time series champion Riley Hickman, who looked to try to use the high side to challenge for the point. But that came to an end when Hickman slammed the wall, knocking the rear spoiler from his car.
Chilton had one more challenger to overcome, as Jackie Boggs worked his way to second. But Boggs couldn’t close the gap, as Chilton drove to the victory.
Boggs finished in second, with Zack Dohm in third, David Breazeale in fourth and Jason Jameson in fifth.
Justin Ratliff, Billy Franklin, Derek Fisher, Zach Leonhardi and Josh Hall rounded out the top ten.
The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series next makes a two day stop in the Peach State. It starts on Friday, June 7 at Oglethorpe Speedway in Pooler, Georgia. Then it’s on to Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia on Saturday, June 8.
