Gus Simpson scores Limited Late Model victory at WBS

By Brandon Reed Reporter

Everything went Gus Simpson’s way on Saturday night at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway.

The Gainesville, Georgia driver – piloting the No. 98 usually driven by Jimmy Johnson – made the most of a slip by John Anderson to score the victory in the Limited Late Model feature at the ¼-mile clay raceway.

After a trio of false starts, the race finally got underway, with Anderson and Simpson battling for the top spot from the front row. Anderson would move to the point, with Simpson in pursuit.

Anderson began to build a healthy margin over the rest of the field as the race moved into the middles portions. But that advantage went away when Anderson’s car nearly spun coming off of turn two. That allowed Simpson to bypass him down the backstretch to take the lead.

As the field funneled into turn three, Anderson’s car again stepped out, this time spinning to a stop at the bottom of the track to draw a caution.

On the restart, Simpson reclaimed the lead, with Cole Stinchcomb in second. Simpson would drive away from all competition en route to the victory.

Stinchcomb finished in second, with Brandon Roberts in third, Andy Barton in fourth and Anderson in fifth.

In other action, Chris Jones edged out Tyler Canup for the Hobby feature victory. Nick Sellers finished in third, with Logan Stinchcomb in fourth and Dakota Taylor in fifth.

Aaron Criswell took the win in the Modified Street feature, with Wormy Gaddis, Arti Ridgeway, Jordan Poole and Neal Cox rounding out the top five.

Mark Chancey was the winner in the Stock V8 feature. Jeff Casper finished in second, with Trey Pilgrim in third.

Justin Taylor took top honors in the Stock 4A feature, with Kyle Braswell in second, Damen Harrison in third, Allen Cantrell in fourth and Leebo Bridges in fifth.

Derek Lord scored the victory in the Stock 4B feature. John Martin finished second, with Jason Fowler third, Mark Parker, Jr. and Adam Jones fifth.

Trey Chapman took home the victory in the Front Wheel Drive feature, with Michael Elrod in second, Steven Shedd in third, Jake McBride in fourth and Michael Davis in fifth.
