Nine Gwinnett educators lose jobs following test cheating investigation

By AccessWDUN Staff

Nine educators with the Gwinnett County School System will not return to their jobs for the upcoming school year following an investigation into standardized test cheating.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reported six teachers and three administrators were given the option of resigning or retiring from their jobs at Grace Snell Middle School in Loganville.

The problem surfaced earlier this year when some 8th graders at the school were given an unauthorized formula sheet to study for the math portion of the Milestones test; the students were then allowed to use the sheet and their notes as a study guide during the test. As a result, 76 students had to retake the math portion of the test.

Among the educators who will not return is Principal Allen Craine, according to the newspaper report.

A report about the cheating scandal will be provided to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, which handles professional certifications for educators.

The Post said parents of Snell Middle School students received a letter from the Gwinnett County School Board informing them of the actions that had been taken.
