Some recreational areas on Lake Lanier to remain closed through Memorial Day

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will keep Lake Lanier's West Bank Day Use Park and Sawnee Campground closed to the public — by both land and water — for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend.

USACE temporarily closed West Bank Park due to damage from heavy rains and flooding earlier in the spring. While repairs and construction continue, the park will remain closed to ensure public safety, according to a Corps news release.  Its reopening date will be announced later.

Sawnee Campground will reopen on June 13, following its temporary closure due to limited staffing and lack of available park volunteers.
