By AccessWDUN Staff

COLUMBUS — The White County girls golf team sits fourth after the opening day of the Class 4A girls state tournament at Maple Ridge Golf Course.

The Lady Warriors fired a 236 and trail leader and host Columbus by 10 strokes. Woodward Academy shot a 227, Blessed Trinity a 235, and Marist a 240 after the first 18 holes.

White County came into the tournament on heels of posting the second-lowest score in the Area tournament. Grace Jones led the way on Monday with a 75. Catie Craig shot a 78 and Caroline Craig an 83 with Jones and Catie Craig sitting in the top 10 in the individual tournament.

Coach Darrell Dorsey said they are looking for a better showing on Day 2.

“We struggled a bit (Monday) but we’re hoping to rebound strong (Tuesday),” Dorsey said. “The girls are upbeat about the opportunity.”

The second round will get under way on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
