STATE GOLF: Commerce teams, Towns boys have solid first day in Class A Public; Rabun, Union teams struggle in 2A

WARNER ROBINS — A trio of northeast Georgia area golf teams put in solid showings on the opening day of the Class A Public state tournaments Monday at Southern Hills Golf Club in Hawkinsville and at Southern Landings Golf Course in Warner Robins.

The Commerce girls posted a 165 total, which was good for third place, and they sit 15 shots back of first place Lake Oconee (150, 6-over par) at Southern Hills.

The Towns County boys fired a 360, which is just 12 shots off the pace of first place Drew Charter (348), and are in fifth place after the first 18 holes. The Commerce boys sit in sixth after shooting a 363 at Southern Landings.

The Lady Tigers had a pair of golfers in the top six after the opening round. Cameron Ford shot an 80, good for fourth, and Kristin Tash had an 85, which tied her for sixth.

In the boys individual tournament, Towns County’s Nick Sisco shot an 84 and is in 12th while Jeremy Davis of Commerce fired an 85 and is tied for 14th. Both were the low scorers for their respective teams.

CLASS 2A STATE TOURNAMENT

The Rabun County and Union County girls had rough outings at Oak Mountain Golf Course in Bremen.

The Lady Wildcats shot a 201 and the Lady Panthers fired a 226 and sit in 9th and 12th places. Host Bremen leads with a 149.

In the boys tournament, also at Oak Mountain, the Rabun County boys struggled as well shooting a 163 and sit in 13th place, 41 strokes behind leader Metter.
