Smoke detector credited with saving Loganville family home, installed by firefighters

A smoke detector credited with alerting a Loganville couple to a home fire was installed by the fire department last year.

Gwinnett County Fire Services said the fire started early Thursday morning at a home on Brushy Fork Road.

The smoke detector alerted the couple inside, who called 9-1-1. When firefighters arrived, they found much of the back of the split level home in flames.

Investigators said the fire started in a wall and was moments away from penetrating the living quarters of the home.

It turns out, the smoke alarm was installed by Gwinnett County Fire Services during a 2018 smoke alarm drive.
