DURHAM, N.C. — An ultra-efficient 15 runs on 15 hits day for No. 7 Georgia Tech baseball led it to a 15-3 series-clinching win over Duke on Saturday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The Yellow Jackets (35-14, 17-9 ACC) secured its eighth-straight ACC series victory and its ninth-straight series win overall, while holding the Blue Devils (28-21, 13-13 ACC) to just three runs on 13 hits.

For the fifth-straight game, Tech raked for more than 14 hits, highlighted by six multi-hit performances and a career-best 4-for-4, two-RBI day for Nick Wilhite. The Jackets also went yard three times, with Kyle McCann knocking two and Colin Hall pelting another.

Duke, offensively, was led by three multi-hit players with Joey Loperfido hitting a double and a home run for two RBI.

The seventh-ranked Jackets needed just two arms on the mound on Saturday. LHP Connor Thomas (8-1) had his ninth quality start of the year, allowing just three runs on 11 hits over 7.0 innings of work. Senior RHP Robert Winborne slammed the door shut on the game, throwing two frames of hitless baseball.

Duke was once again forced to call the bullpen early as Bill Chillari (2-3) threw 90 pitches of 3.2 innings of work, allowing nine earned runs during the outing. The Blue Devils then used three relievers with Al Pesto fanning five over 2.0 as the most effective.

The Yellow Jackets will close the series on Sunday, May 12 against Duke. Game 3’s First pitch was moved up to 11 a.m. due to inclement weather in the forecast.
