Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School has expanded its global reach with the addition of an education center in Spoleto, Italy.
Rabun Gap, along with two other independent schools — Ashley Hall School and The Culver Academies — teamed up under Spoleto Study Abroad to invest in the Spoleto campus, and other independent schools will be able to utilize the space throughout the year.
The new campus will provide a broad range of experiential education opportunities for students, faculty, and the entire Rabun Gap community, according to a news release. Participants in the Spoleto program and trips will be immersed in language, culture, the humanities, and the sciences.
Included on the Spoleto campus is the Palazzo Leti, which has housing for 24 and includes classroom space.
Rabun Gap has been a part of the Spoleto Study Abroad consortium since 2013 and has been regularly sending students and faculty on spring and summer trips to the Italian city since 2011. A group of Upper School students and faculty returned from their Spoleto Spring Break trip in March. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Head of School Dr. Anthony Sgro currently serves as board chair for Spoleto Study Abroad.
“This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for our students and community. Spoleto provides such a rich cultural experience and the academic possibilities are endless,” Sgro said. “We’re currently working on developing a robust program for Rabun Gap’s time at the Palazzo and Spoleto campus.”
