Scotty Garnell Morrow of Gainesville, convicted in 1994 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and another woman, was executed by lethal injection Thursday. The execution occured at 9:38 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Center in Jackson.
Morrow, 52, was convicted of murder in the shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend Barbara Ann Young and her friend Tonya Woods at Young's Gainesville home in December 1994. A third woman also was shot but survived.
The Department of Corrections released two audio recordings, one taken in his cell about 5:35 p.m., the other in the chamber shortly before the execution was carried out.

I would like to extend my most sincerest and heartfelt apologies to the Young family, the Woods family and to Ms. Latoya Horne for the injuries and things that I have caused you. Sorry for all the pain and harm I have caused these two families. And I would like to apologize to my family for the pain and heartache I have caused them. If you can ever find it in your hearts to forgive, I would ask that you do that, and mostly for yourself because holding anger and hatred in your heart only hinders you. Once you are able to forgive, you are able to move on in life. And once again, I sincerely apologize. That’s it.
Deepest apologies to the Young family, the Woods family. I would like to say I’m extremely sorry to Ms. Latoya Horne and hope that you can all have healing, have peace in your life and forgiveness in your heart. That you will be able to grow in your spiritual life and not suffer any more in your life. I’m truly sorry for all that truly happened. To my family, friends and loved ones, I thank you all so very much and I truly sorry for the pain I caused y’all. I love you all. God bless.
