PLAYOFF SOCCER: Jefferson girls rally; Union County falls in quarters

By AccessWDUN Staff

ZEBULON — The Jefferson girls rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits to beat Pike County Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state tournament.

Pike County lead 1-0 early before Jefferson got the equalizer on an Ally-Kate Navas free kick goal from outside the box in the 29th minute. It would go to the half tied at 1-1.

Just two minutes into the second half Pike County retook the lead, 2-1, with a goal. But the Lady Dragons turned up the pressure.

Abbey Eison scored the first of two consecutive goals on an assist from Valerie LaDue to knot the game at 2-2. Five minutes later, Eison struck again, for a 3-2 lead.

Valerie LaDue closed out the game late with a huge insurance goal scoring on a shot from 18-yards.

ST. VINCENT GIRLS 5,
UNION COUNTY 0

The Lady Panthers were held to just one shot on goal in the first half as their run in the Class 2A playoffs came to an end.

St. Vincent's scored in the 5th minute to grab the lead and in the 22nd minute to pull away for a 2-0 halftime lead. St. Vincents added three goals in the second, two within a three-minute period to pull away for the victory.
