Spring Saturday blossoms with area activities

Communities across North Georgia took advantage of Saturday’s sunny weather to give back to those who live in and around them.

The day began with a Superhero Pancake Breakfast hosted by Longhorn Steakhouse in Cornelia, a fundraiser for the Habersham County Senior Center and Meals on Wheels Habersham.

In addition to a pancake breakfast, participants could have photos taken with members of Heroes in Force, check out fire trucks from Cornelia Fire and Habersham County Emergency Services, and law enforcement vehicles from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.

In Toccoa, Currahee Squadron 506 Civil Air Patrol held its open house and fly-in at R.G. LeTourneau Field at the Toccoa Stephens County Airport.

The event featured modern and antique aircraft, including helicopters from AnMed Life Flight and the Georgia State Patrol. A communications van from Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security, a command post and dive team display from Stephens County Emergency Management Agency, as well as participation from the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Shiloh Fire Department and Stephens County Amateur Radio Society.

In Mt. Airy, the grounds of town hall hosted the rescheduled Mt. Airy Nationals Car Show and Cities Day celebration, bringing in dozens of antique and specialty automobiles, booths, a horseshoe tournament and more.

In Baldwin, a citywide clean-up was followed by Safety Day on the grounds of the Baldwin Municipal Complex on Willingham Avenue.

Participants included Baldwin Fire, Baldwin Police, Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Banks County Sheriff’s Office, Habersham Search and Rescue, and the Gainesville=based AirLife Georgia 2 medical helicopter.

Habersham Little League commemorated its annual Austin Sprayberry Day, raising money in the fight against cancer.
