Gainesville, Habersham, Hall law enforcement recognized by MADD

Gainesville City Police and deputies from the Habersham County Sheriff's Office and the Hall County Sheriff's Office were recognized Tuesday by MADD Georgia for their work against drunk driving.
 
The Gainesville Police Department was recognized as Statewide Agency of the Year, as well as winning the Golden Achievement Award at the 2019 Golden Shield Awards, according to information the department shared earlier this week. The Agency of the Year award is awarded to the agency that demonstrates excellence in implementing innovative techniques in the detection and deterrence of traffic violations, DUI and underage drinking prevention; the Golden Achievement highlights outstanding expertise in the field of traffic safety, DUI prevention and/or community intervention that made a significant contribution to MADD's mission and Georgia traffic safety the previous year.
 
Also from North Georgia, Cpl. Kris Hall of the Habersham County Sheriff's Office was named Statewide Officer of the Year, while Hall County's John Thompson IV was recognized as an honoree for Officer of the Year.
 
The Habersham County Sheriff's Office noted in a Facebook post that Hall was also recognized with the MADD Georgia DUI Achievement - silver level, which recognizes the 50-99 DUI arrests he has made. Also from the agency, Cpl. Dakota Foster was recognized with the achievement on the bronze level for 25-49 DUI arrests and Deputy Brandon Holcomb also achieved a silver level award.
 
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety joined MADD in hosting the 15th annual award ceremony.
 
A full list of winners from the 2019 Golden Shield awards was not immediately available.
