The Class 3A second-ranked Dawson County girls soccer team punched its ticket to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs with a shutout win over Sonoraville Tuesday at Tiger Stadium in Dawsonville.
"I'm very proud of the way that we came out after the half," Dawson coach Chess Hamby said. "I felt we missed some opportunities in the first half, so I was proud of them for finishing the way that they did. Sonoraville was a very physical team but that is the type of teams that we will see moving forward."
Molly Muenchen turned in a hat trick performance, scoring three goals to lead the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Tigers (13-1-1, Region 7-3A No. 1 seed) scored in the first five minutes of play off a Ruthie Pittman kick to go up 1-0. They would end the first half up, 3-0.
The second half was all Dawson County, scoring four goals. The Lady Tigers hit cruise control with 10 minutes remaining, up 7-0.
Rachel Rajczak scored twice and Kensey Batty hit the back of the net once. Keeper Fallen Lacey recorded the shutout in goal.
The Lady Tigers will host Region 8-3A No. 2 seed Jefferson on May 1. Time to be announced.

The Lady Lions' ride home from Savannah was a good one.
Lakeview (12-4, Area 3 No. 2 seed) rallied to upset Class A Private No. 8-ranked SCD, 5-4, in overtime to advance to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history in the Class A Private playoffs.
Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Millie Filson scored a header off a perfect corner kick from Hannah Perkins to tie the match, 1-1.
Sara Nivens lifted the Lady Lions to their first lead right before the half pass from Filson to splash the breakaway goal
SCD came out in the second half on a rampage, scoring three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead.
But, Perkins would add a Lakeview spark, booting a free-kick goal through the net with 10 minutes left. Down by a goal for the second time in the match, Millie Filson scored the tying goal off a rebound with four minutes to go and eventually send the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, Maddy Towles placed a perfect through ball as Sara Nivens punched it in for the game winner. Lakeview's defense played stingy to hold SCD scoreless in the last 10 minutes of the state playoff battle.
Lakeview will play the winner of the Mt. Paran/Holy Innocents game on May 1.

The Lady Dragons (12-4, Region 8-3A No. 2 seed) won the penalty kick battle to advance to the second round of the Class 3A tournament Tuesday afternoon at home.
Jefferson out kicked Pace Academy, 7-6, to get the win. Goalkeeper Margo Perry blocked the game-clinching save.
The Lady Dragons will travel to Region 7-3A No. 1 seed Dawson County May 1. Time to be announced.

The Lady Wolves (12-4, Region 8-5A No. 1 seed) shared the wealth in a shut out win in the Class 5A state playoffs Tuesday at home.
Six Lady Wolves scored to rout Cross Keys. Emma Danley, Arden Paulino, Chloe Kerr, Angeli Burgos all scored two goals. Ava Sherman and Heidi Orr each scored a goal.
Buford will host Riverwood on May 1 at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Indians (10-2, Area 8 No. 1 seed) knocked off Bowden to advance to the second round of the Class A state playoffs Tuesday at home.

The Class 3A No. 6-ranked Lady Panthers (15-2-1, Region 8-3A No. 1 seed) shutout Stone Mountain at home in the first round of the state playoffs Tuesday at home.
