Midas, Watson score Late Model Twin 40 wins at Hickory

By Track PR

Vince Midas and Charlie Watson both collected hardware in victory lane at North Carolina’s Hickory Motor Speedway as they split a pair of NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model victories on Saturday night.

Midas would win in the first 40-lap feature, while Watson was victorious in the second.

In the first feature, Kevin Leicht set fast time in qualifying, with Midas on the outside. The duo battled side-by-side off the start, with Leicht nosing out to the early lead.

Midas would chip away at Leicht’s advantage, and as the race reached the halfway mark, Midas would finally move to the point.

It was a spot he would never relinquish, as Midas drove to his first career Hickory Late Model victory.

Brody Pope finished in second, with Thomas Beane in third, Chris Hudspeth in fourth and Leicht in fifth.

In the second feature, Pat Rachels started on the pole, with Neil Meredith on the outside. They would battle back-and-forth for the lead on the start, with Meredith finally coming away with the advantage.

Behind him, Watson moved past Rachels for second, and began working on the leader. A few laps later, he would move to the lead, with Beane moving to second behind him. A spin by Ryan Vargas would bring out the caution with seven laps to go.

On the restart, Watson, Beane and Midas raced for the top spot, going three-wide at one point. Watson would come away with the lead, and went on to record the victory.

Beane finished in second, with Midas third, Rachels fourth and Brody Pope in fifth.

In other action, Cody DeMarmels held off Todd Midas for the Limited Late Model victory. Josh Kossek finished in third, with Ben Campbell in fourth and Kosma Guznyakov in fifth.

Jonathon Smitih took the win in the Street Stocks feature. Mark Whitten, Drew Cox, Ethan Johnson and Kevin Eby rounded out the top five.

Dennis Ward scored the victory in the Four Cylinder feature, with Cody Combs in second, Allison Houston in third, Robbie Trivette in fourth and Brian Mundy in fifth.

Tim Gilbert was the winner in the Hickory Vintage Racing Series feature. Bob Hapeman came home in second, followed by Bill Webb in third, Bill Powell in fourth and Mackie Webb in fifth.
