Huffman and Hudspeth split Hickory Late Model Twin 40s

By Track PR

Landon Huffman and Chris Hudspeth both made trips to Hickory Motor Speedway’s victory lane on Saturday night, as they recorded wins in a pair of 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model features at the North Carolina raceway.

Huffman grabbed the top spot in qualifying for the first feature and would edge out Mike Darne to take the early lead after the two battled side-by-side on the opening laps.

While Huffman held the top spot, Thomas Beane bypassed Darne and gave chase. But Huffman proved to be too strong, as he scored the victory.

Beane finished in second, with Brody Pope in third, Darne in fourth and Chris Hudspeth in fifth.

In the second feature, Mitch Walker took the early lead, with Zach Bruenger moving to second. Bruenger would move to the top spot on lap four but saw his advantage go away when a multi-car accident broke out to bring out the caution. That would be followed two laps later by a caution for debris.

Back under green, Bruenger would retake the top spot, but the race was interrupted again by caution on lap 14 when Huffman and Walker made contact.

A furious battle for the lead broke out on the restart, leading to yet another caution that sent Bruenger to the pits with damage and Nicholas Sanchez to the rear of the field.

On the restart, Chris Hudspeth and Mike Darne battled door-to-door for four laps before Hudspeth finally made the pass for the lead using the high line.

Hudspeth would go on to record the victory, with Brody Pope, Ryan Vargas, Sanchez, and Darne rounding out the top five.

In other action, Gage Painter scored the win in the Limited Late Model feature, with Cody DeMarmels in second, Akinori Ogata in third, Josh Kossek in fourth and Josh Stark in fifth.

Drew Cox was the winner in the Street Stocks feature. Jonathan Smith came home in second, followed by Marshall Sutton in third, Todd Bradburry in fourth and Kevin Eby in fifth.

Charlie Neill took top honors in the Super Trucks feature, with Allen Huffman second, Spencer Boyd third, Terry Absher fourth and Dennis Trivette fifth.

Robbie Hollified scored the Renegade feature victory. Justin Austin, Danny Crump, Jr., Spencer Dickinson and Zachary Mullins rounded out the top five.
