No. 24 Lubbock Christian shoots past No. 20 UNG women in Elite Eight battle

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 24 Lubbock Christian women's basketball team was hot Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II tournament.

The Lady Chaps shot a season-high 62.3 percent from the floor as they defeated the No. 20 University of North Georgia, 99-54, Tuesday night in the Elite Eight at Ohio Dominican's Alumni Hall.

LCU's Maddi Chitsey had a career-high 28 points on 11-of-12 shooting to lead all scorers.

Jefferson's Abbie Franklin led the way for North Georgia with 16 points. Flowery Branch's Julianne Sutton added 11, while Vanessa Agrusa put up 10 points. 

The Nighthawks and Lady Chaps traded buckets for the first three minutes of the game. With the score tied, 9-9, LCU went on a 19-2 run that spanned five minutes in the first quarter to take the lead for good.

North Georgia finishes the season with a record of 30-5, marking the most wins in a single season in the NCAA era. The last time UNG had 30 or more wins was in the 2003-04 season when Buffie Burson's squad went 30-6 on the way to the NAIA Elite Eight.

Lubbock Christian advances to take on No. 1 Drury in the second semifinal tomorrow night. Indiana (PA) and Southwestern Oklahoma State will play in the first semifinal of the evening.
