Most Habersham County offices open in new location Monday

CLARKESVILLE – The majority of Habersham County government offices will open Monday in their new location in the Habersham County Administration Building, 130 Jacob’s Way (off Toccoa Highway), Clarkesville.

The new facility will house the Habersham County Commission offices including county manager, county clerk, human resources and finance. Additionally, the building will include planning and development, information technology, public works, and tax assessors’ office beginning Monday.

Officials will waste no time putting the new facility to use.

Commissioners will begin budget meetings with department heads Monday afternoon, March 25, in the Commissioners’ Conference Room of the new Habersham County Administration Building on Jacob’s Way, adjacent to the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center.

The tentative schedule for Monday includes:

  • 1 p.m. – Fleet services;
  • 1:30 p.m. – Transit;
  • 2 p.m. – Facilities management;
  • 2:30 p.m. – Emergency Management and E-9-1-1;
  • 3 p.m. – Elections and registration;
  • 3:30 p.m. – Landfill;
  • 4 p.m. – Airport; and
  • 4:30 p.m. – Roads and bridges.

Budget meetings will continue Tuesday morning, March 26, on the following tentative schedule:

  • 8 a.m. – Planning and development;
  • 9 a.m. – Senior center;
  • 9:30 a.m. – Fire;
  • 10 a.m. – EMS;
  • 10:30 a.m. – Information technology;
  • 11 a.m. – Animal control;
  • 11:30 a.m. – Tax assessors;
  • noon – Recreation; and
  • 12:30 p.m. – DFCS.

Budget meetings will continue Monday and Tuesday, April 1-2, for other departments and agencies.

The Habersham County Tax Commissioner’s Office will remain in the HEMC Annex, 6257 State Hwy. 115, Clarkesville, until April 5, and may be reached by calling (706) 839-0120. That delay in moving to the new facility is due to mobile home tax collections.

The Habersham County Elections and Registration Office will remain in the basement of the old courthouse at 555 Monroe Street, Clarkesville, until after the April 9 House District 28 Republican Primary Special Election and may be reached by calling (706) 839-0170.
