Baseball: UNG scores two runs in the ninth to beat Augusta

By AccessWDUN Staff

DAHLONEGA — Josh Profit hit a single to center in the bottom of the ninth, scoring two runs as the No. 12 University of North Georgia baseball team broke through and walked-off Augusta, 3-2, Friday night at Bob Stein Stadium.

Augusta was the first on the scoreboard as Beau Hanna brought home the game's first run after the Jaguars loaded the bases in the second inning. North Georgia answered in the bottom half of the inning as Nick Clarno led off the inning with a single and came home to score on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.

The Jags took advantage of two Nighthawk errors in the fifth to load the bases, but they could only score one as Steven Bower worked out of the jam to limit the damage. UNG had opportunities to score up until the ninth inning but AU's pitching staff kept the Nighthawk bats quiet until the ninth.

North Georgia loaded the bases with one away in the ninth for Profit to drop a single into left center, scoring Crews Taylor and Chase Sudduth to win the game.

NOTES
- Sudduth's 15-game hitting streak came to an end, but the senior reached base three times, extending his streak of games reaching base to 16.

- Bower struck out 10 across his complete game and improved to 4-2 on the year.

- Bill LeRoy, Nik Levensteins and Clarno each had two hits in the game.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will take on Augusta Saturday at 2 p.m.
