SATURDAY EDITION: Around Northeast Georgia

*Tthe Georgia Department of Corrections, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Agriculture, recently hosted an Equine Auction at the Lee Arrendale State Prison Equine Center in Alto as part of a partnership to rescue and rehabilitate abused or neglected horses.  More than $2,000 was raised and will be used to aid in the rehabilitation of horses which have been taken in by the agriculture department.

*Suwanee Police Chief Mike Jones was honored recently at the State Capitol as Georgia’s 2018-2019 Chief of the Year. Senators Renee Unterman and John Albers sponsored Senate Resolution 47, commending and congratulating Jones for 45 years of outstanding service.

*The University of North Georgia will look to defend its crown as the top ROTC Ranger Challenge team in the country April 12-13 at the Sandhurst Military Skills Competition in West Point, New York.

*Former Hall County Commissioner Deborah Mack was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. 

*North Georgia Technical College Photography Program Director, Jim Loring, opened a new photo exhibition at the Smith-Williams Art Studio in Demorest this week. The show, entitled No Boundaries, features humanitarian photography from around the world.
