Neil Baggett and Casey Roberts opened up the 2019 Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series season by snagging victories over the weekend at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida.

Baggett, of Columbus, Mississippi, was the winner on Friday night, while Toccoa, Georgia native Roberts was victorious on Saturday night.

On Friday, Baggett led 24 laps en route to his first career series win.

Baggett set the tone for the night by leading qualifying with a lap at 15.020 seconds. The only time he didn’t spend at the front of the field was when David Breazeale led for six laps. But that ended when Breazeale made contact with a lapped car, punching a hole in his radiator.

Baggett led for a total of 24 laps, taking home the $3,000 top prize in the 30 lap event.

Mark Whitener finished in second, with Jay Scott in third, Riley Hickman in fourth and Joseph Joiner in fifth.

On Saturday night, Casey Roberts led all 60 laps of the third annual Bash at the Beach en route to the $7,000 victory.

It wasn’t an easy win, as Roberts had to hold of Baggett and Breazeale over the course of the feature, but both came up short.

Breazeale, Baggett, Riley Hickman and Emerson, Georgia’s Zach Leonhardi rounded out the top five.

Up next for the Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series is a second attempt at the March Madness event at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina, which was rained out earlier this month. The series will now run the event on Sunday, March 24.
