Stranded motorists can get help from new TRV in Forsyth County

Forsyth County's new Traffic Response Vehicle or TRV will help motorists who get stranded during rush hour on all county roadways.

Sheriff's office Deputy First Class Chris Barger, an 18 year veteran with the department, began his new duties Tuesday and calls the truck one of the largest vehicles in the fleet. He described the truck and said, "It is a Ford F550 with a 6ft work box on the back of it. The lighting is different. The front of the truck is striped as a normal black and white Forsyth County Sheriff's vehicle. But the box is all black with reflective striping. You really can't miss it."

He explained some of the services he can offer and said, "If you are broken down on the side of the road, we can get your gas. We can change your tire. We can jump start your car. We can help with accidents. We can remove cars from the roadway; push or pull. We can assist with traffic direction."

In addition to solving basic vehicle maintenance problems Barger said, "I am a certified law enforcement officer. So, if I see a violation of Georgia law, I can initiate a traffic stop and write a citation, give a warning, whatever the situation sees fit."

The idea came from the GDOT's H.E.R.O. truck and other TRV units in surrounding jurisdictions.
