GAINESVILLE – A pair of closely watched zoning measures are scheduled for final decision when the Hall County Commission meets Thursday evening.
At their work session Monday afternoon commissioners agreed to move a rezoning request from Baldwin Paving for the purpose of constructing an asphalt plant off Candler Road to Thursday’s voting session. The Hall County Planning Commission has recommended denial of that request in a 3-1 vote.
Secondly, commissioners agreed to hold a second reading and final vote Thursday on amendments to the Official Code of Hall County regarding short term rentals.
Public comments at the first reading, and previously at the Planning Commission, were so evenly divided (including a 2-2 vote by the Planning Commission) that Thursday’s decision by the County Commission will likely be a split decision as well.
The voting session begins at 6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Hall County Government Center on Browns Bridge Road.
ANOTHER TIRE AMNESTY IN THE WORKS
In September Hall County hosted “Tire Amnesty Days” at the Hall County Landfill. Another such event will happen if the Hall County Commission approves the grant application and acceptance of $5,000 from the Georgia EPD at Thursday night’s voting session.
In September the county’s website said:
“Tires are typically accepted at the Landfill for a fee, depending on the tire’s size,” said Hall County Landfill Director Johnnie Vickers. “However, due to a recent grant from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the County’s costs associated with removing, transporting, and processing scrap tires during Tire Amnesty Days will be covered, allowing us to provide the service without charging our customers.“
The next such event has not yet been scheduled but if governed by the same rules a 10-tire limit will be in effect, with a 20” maximum size limit on each tire.
