After almost a month's worth of repairs, the Gainesville Civic Center ballroom is set to reopen to the public on Friday, March 8.
The Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department announced the closure of the ballroom on Feb. 11 after an inspection revealed the main support beam in the ceiling over the ballroom was damaged. The beam was part of the original 1946 construction of the historic Civic Center.
Construction crews installed two steel reinforcement beams at a cost of $23,000, according to information from Gainesville Parks and Recreation officials.
The temporary closure of the ballroom did not impact other parts of the Civic Center building.
