Work beginning on Jackson County's largest single water line extension in 15 years

Construction has begun on a $3.6 million Jackson County water line project, the largest such undertaking in the county in 15 years.

Groundbreaking was held recently at the East Jackson Fire Station on Sandy Creek Road.

Eight miles of water mains, ranging in size from 8-inches to 16-inches, will be added along Georgia Highway 334, Swain Road, Sandy Creek Road, Groaning Rock Road, Whitlock Road, and Sanford Road.  The project also includes 82 fire hydrants and a new pump station at the intersection of South Apple Valley Road and Hoods Mill Road.

The work will be paid for by a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), which voters approved in March 2016.

The winning bid was submitted by Dickerson Group of Lawrenceville.  Seven bids were received, ranging from $2.4 million to $4.5 million. Dickerson's bid of $2.4 million is significantly under-budget, allowing additional pipelines to be added to the project.
