Everyday People: Living with Diabetes

By Joy Holmes | Video: Seth Chapman

Ally Baker, a 23-year-old student at the University of North Georgia, has lived with Type 1 diabetes her whole life. She was diagnosed at age six after her mother noticed questionable signs and symptoms of the disease.

One of Baker's childhood friends and neighbor, who was around the same age, was also a Type 1 diabetic. When Baker's mother grew suspicious of her daughter’s health, she talked to the friend’s mother, who suggested she take Baker to get tested immediately.

Sure enough, her suspicion was correct, and Baker was diagnosed and given the medical attention necessary to sustain a healthy life.

In AccessWDUN’s new series “Everyday People,” we sat down with Ally as she shared what it’s like to live with diabetes.

In the Everyday People series, we hope to tell the stories of the readers and listeners who follow Jacobs Media on our many platforms. If you have a story to tell or know someone who does, there might be a chance to be featured on one of our future episodes. Email Joy at [email protected] for inquiries.
