*Tickets are on sale now for Gateway to Hope, a fundraiser for the Gateway Domestic Violence Center in Gainesville.   This year's event, to be held March 22, will benefit Gateway to 2020, the campaign to build a new shelter.   In addition, sponsorship opportunities are available.  For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.

*The City of Hiawassee will use a recently approved $2.1 million state loan to finance improvements to its water treatment facility.   The city will pay 1.75 percent on the 20-year loan, which is eligible for a reduced interest rate because the city is a PlanFirst community. *Rogue Spirit Productions, a Jackson County Theatre Production Company, is offering a free workshop called The Exterior Character. This workshop will cover the basics for learning how to do your own stage make-up, hair and costumes.  The workshop will be Feb. 23, 2019, at the Jefferson Public Library (1000 Washington Street) from noon to 3 pm.   For additional information, please contact [email protected]

*Piedmont College Associate Professor of Music Dr. Andrea M. Price, soprano, will perform a free voice recital 7:30 p.m., February 28 in the college Chapel in Demorest.

*The Georgia Public Library Service honored Dan A. Aldridge, Jr., as its “Public Library Champion of the Year” recently at the Braselton Library.  Officials presenting Aldridge with the annual award praised him for his leadership and example as a multi-term president of the Friends of the Braselton-West Jackson Library and his advocacy of library volunteers throughout Georgia.

*Young Harris College music professors Karen Calloway, Kerry Bryant and Jeff Bauman were recently honored by the Georgia Music Educators Association for their years of service to the music profession - Calloway for 40 years, Bryant for 30, and Bauman for 25 years
