GAINESVILLE — The Flowery Branch girls won their first Region 7-4A championship Saturday with a 50-34 victory over Marist at the Chestatee gym.

The Lady Falcons (24-3) went a perfect 14-0 in region play, counting two games in the region tournament.

Flowery Branch led throughout for its 17th straight win but could not shake the Lady War Eagles (20-7) until the fourth quarter.

They led 10-6 after the first quarter and just 19-16 at halftime. Flowery Branch extended the lead to 34-28 heading into the fourth quarter and blew it open by holding Marist, the 2018 Region 7-4A champion, to just 5 points.

Caroline Wysocki led the way for Flowery Branch with 18 points. Ashley Scott added 10 points for the Lady Falcons.

Region 7-4A will play Region 6-4A in the first round of the playoffs, which begin next Friday at the home of the higher seeded team.
