By AccessWDUN Staff

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The No. 3 University of North softball team pitched three complete games to sweep the competition Saturday at the Gulf Coast Invitational.

GAME 1 - UNG 2, Montevallo 1
Kylee Smith started in the circle for the Nighthawks against Montevallo and pitched a gem, punching out eight while only giving up three hits and an unearned run in the sixth.

The Nighthawks scored both their runs in the first when Kaylee Womack singled to score Katie Collins and Hobby Gregory to put UNG up, 2-0. The unearned run by the Falcons in the sixth brought the game to its final score.

GAME 2 - UNG 2, Union 0
This time, it was freshman Abbie Crawford going the distance against Union, striking out seven while walking just one over the seven innings.

UNG got both runs in a single inning again, this time in the bottom of the third. After loading the bases, Marley Stowers singled down the line in left to plate Cheyanne Mosteller and Gregory to give North Georgia the two-run cushion.

GAME 3 - UNG 5, Shorter 1
Laken Chambers got the nod in the nightcap and went the full seven innings as well, striking out five and giving up just a single unearned run.

North Georgia took an early 1-0 lead off a Collins triple that plated Gregory, but the Hawks answered back with a run in the fourth to knot the game up, 1-1.

The offense for the Nighthawks exploded in the fifth, going for four runs, two of which were off of Shorter errors.

NOTES
- Gregory scored four runs today while going 3-for-9 at the plate.

- UNG has not lost back-to-back games since being swept in the 2017 super regional round, a time period spanning nearly 21 months.

NEXT UP
The Nighthawks will finish play at the Gulf Coast Invitational with two games Sunday, starting with a 12:30 p.m. top-25 showdown against No. 22 Valdosta State.
