Fire destroys Habersham County home overnight

A home west of Clarkesville was destroyed in an early-morning fire off Ga. 115.

Habersham County E-9-1-1 received a call just before 2 a.m. Tuesday reporting a structure fire on Half Moon Circle.

Habersham County Emergency Services Engines 13 and 16, Tanker 13, Med 16, Captain 1 and Battalion 1 responded, along with Clarkesville Engine 3 and Lee Arrendale State Prison Station 24.

The first-arriving units at 2:04 a.m. found a single-wide modular home about 75% involved in fire, said Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.

Crews worked in a defensive mode of operation in order to contain and extinguish the fire, Black said. Crews were made aware of a small puppy inside the structure. Following extinguishment, personnel were unable to locate the animal.

The home was a total loss and there was no insurance on the dwelling.

Crews remained on scene until just before 4 a.m., completing salvage and overhaul before returning to service, Black said.
