Investigators charge Commerce woman with home arson

A Commerce woman is jailed in Banks County after allegedly setting fire to a home on Ga. 164, Commerce.

About 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, units from Banks County Fire/EMS responded to a reported structure fire at 1630 Ga. 164, said Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols.

“Upon arrival, units found a single-family residence heavily involved with fire,” Nichols said. “A quick attack was made of the fire and it was confined to the residence of origin. The occupants were home at the time of the fire.”

One female on the scene was checked for injuries and released.

The cause of the fire was investigated by the Banks County Fire Department and Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office and has been ruled arson, Nichols said.

Susan Marie Fisher, 49, of Commerce is charged with first-degree arson, Banks County Detention Center reports show.

No other injuries were reported, and the incident was active for about three hours.
