Investigators seek White County church arson suspect

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

The White County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a white male in connection with an arson case at Solid Rock Baptist Church on Dec. 25.

“On Christmas Day at 9:40 p.m., a white male walked behind the Solid Rock Baptist Church and poured gas on the backside of the church and set it on fire,” said Sheriff’s Capt. Rick Kelley.

The church is located on Ga. 115 West at the Lumpkin County line.

“The fire burned itself out and was discovered the next day by members of the church,” Kelley said.

The church suffered cosmetic damage but no structural damage, Kelley said.

Authorities were able to use video surveillance that shows a white male committing the crime. The suspect was driving a dark color four-door passenger car.

Kelley said investigators are following up on some leads and anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the White County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 865-5177.
