Georgia racing historian Gordon Pirkle celebrated his 83rd birthday last week, so we thought it was a great time for an encore presentation of our Hard Left Turn Podcast featuring past interviews with him.
Back in 2012, Brandon Reed sat down at the Dawsonville Pool Room to talk to Pirkle, owner of the famed establishment and the one of the directors for the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame for a pair of interviews.
In the first part, Pirkle talks about the history of racing in Dawsonville, the history of the pool room and the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.
In the second part, they discuss the Hall of Fame itself, which was then celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Also in 2012, Brandon interviewed Georgia Racing Hall of Famer Charlie Mincey. A moonshiner turned race car driver, Mincey had done everything from racing to stunt driving in the movies, and shared some of those stories.
