3 arrested on various battery charges following late night quarrel

A family dispute during the midnight hours Saturday turned savage when multiple shots were fired at a Baldwin residence.

According to the Baldwin Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Brook Crest Haven, after Habersham 911 received multiple calls in reference to a domestic situation with shots fired.

Chief of Police Charles Webb said officers learned upon arrival the dispute involved a husband and wife who were in the midst of an argument which began at a party.

"Upon the officers’ arrival, they made contact with the victim, who had visible scratch marks on her face that were bleeding," Webb said. "After questioning all parties involved, investigation of the incident revealed that the victim had been at a party with her husband when they began to argue, so they returned home where the argument continued."

According to law enforcement, during the argument, the husband brandished a 9mm handgun and fired multiple rounds into the air. A short time later, the victim's mother-in-law along with her sister-in-law arrived at the scene and began physically assaulting her.

"The victim’s mother-in-law and sister-in-law arrived at the residence and assaulted the victim, causing the scratch marks and bleeding to her face," Webb said. "The firearm and a box of 9mm ammo were recovered from a closet inside the residence as well as multiple spent 9mm shell casings from outside the residence."

The husband was arrested and charged with simple assault under the family violence act, discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, discharging a firearm near a highway or street and disorderly conduct.

The mother-in-law and sister-in-law were both arrested and charged with battery.

Names of those arrested have not yet been released, but Access WDUN will provide updates as they become available.

The Cornelia Police Department, Alto Police Department and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.
