Lake Lanier named one of best U.S. lakes for retirees

By AccessWDUN Staff

Lake Lanier has been named one of the country's best retirement lakes by LakeHomes.com, which bills itself as the leading web destination for lake real estate data and sales information.

Lanier is the only Georgia lake on this year's list.

According to a Lake Homes news release, the list was compiled with data from Lake Homes Realty’s quarterly Lake Real Estate Market Report (https://www.lakehomes.com/info/lake-real-estate-market-reports) in conjunction with the 2019 SmartAsset Best Places to Retire (https://smartasset.com/retirement/where-to-retire).

Only areas with a minimum lake market listings value of $10 million were considered. The criteria included data points such as accessibility to healthcare facilities, the portion of the existing population that are senior citizens, along with each area's cost of living and tax burden.

Mark Griggs, Marketing Director of Lake Homes Realty/LakeHomes.com, said, “Our data tells us that lake real estate buyers and sellers are primarily retirees or soon to be retired individuals. Buyers often shop across multiple states and lakes to find the ideal location for their life stage. We have compiled our list of the best lakes based on the top retirement preferences for this demographic.”

The lakes making the list this year are:

Lake Granbury, Texas

Lake Hickory, North Carolina

Lake Lanier, Georgia

Lake Guntersville, Alabama

Lake Keowee, South Carolina

Tellico Lake, Tennessee

Lake of the Woods, Virginia

Glenn S. Phillips, CEO of Lake Homes Realty/LakeHomes.com, said, “Our lake focused real estate agents are experts in helping customers find the perfect property to fit any lifestyle. Each one of our agents lives, works and plays on the lakes they service. That local knowledge includes awareness of the attractive qualities that retirees are seeking.”
