Statewide first-time claims for unemployment insurance were down statewide in November compared to the month before but were up in metro Gainesville.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says claims were down 17.9 percent across the state. Applications in Gainesville increased by 16.7 percent.
At the same time, compared to a year ago, claims statewide were down 33.1 percent and decreased 21.1 percent in Gainesville.
Among the 14 metropolitan areas in Georgia, Gainesville was one of seven where claims increased when compared to October and one of eleven where applications declined compared to November 2018.
