Girls basketball: Branch rallies for 3OT win over Heritage; North Hall rolls past Jackson Co.

FLOWERY BRANCH — Flowery Branch rallied from a fourth quarter deficit and then needed three overtimes before knocking Heritage-Conyers 61-57 Thursday night at home.

The Falcons (8-5) trailed almost the entire first half falling behind 14-7 after one period and then 20-14 at halftime. But they used a 10-5 third quarter to pull within 25-24 and caught the Patriots at 42 by the end of regulation.

The teams were deadlocked at 48 after the first overtime and at 53 after the second extra frame.

Ashlee Locke had a huge game pouring in 25 points to go with 14 rebounds to lead Flowery Branch, which has won five of its last eight overall. Morgan Aguilar added 14 points and Alana Veiga 11 for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch is off until opening the Lanierland Tournament next Friday.

Lauren Swanson and Ansley Smallwood both registered double-doubles to lead the Trojans to a non-region win in Jefferson.

Swanson poured in 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Smallwood had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

North Hall (7-4) snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory. The Trojans used their defense to take a quick lead and then slowly pulled away. They led 10-6 after the first quarter and then exploded for a 23-9 second quarter run for a 33-21 halftime lead. They extended it to 51-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

Rylee McCall added 12 points and Grace Hollifield 11 points for North Hall., which will be back in action on Friday at home against Habersham Central.
