Cornelia businesses closer to early pouring on Sundays

CORNELIA – The Cornelia City Commission is amending its city alcohol ordinance to accommodate the recently-approved Brunch Bill.

That revised ordinance will allow businesses holding alcoholic beverage licenses in the city to serve alcohol by the drink 90 minutes sooner on Sundays, beginning as early as 11 a.m.

“We held our referendum in November, and it passed I think 83% in favor, so this is an ordinance that, if adopted at the Jan. 7 meeting, would make it where restaurants/bars would be able to start serving alcohol as early as 11 a.m. on Sundays,” said City Manager Donald Anderson.

Because an ordinance change is required to accommodate the new hours, policy requires the city commission to post the ordinance for a month for public comments, though that basically is a formality in this case.

“Here again, this was approved by the voters,” Anderson said.

A copy of the revised ordinance, reflecting the additional 90 minutes of Sunday pouring, is available for review at Cornelia City Hall.
