Girls basketball: Gainesville rolls past Therrell; Rabun, Buford win; Dawson, Branch, Lakeview lose

GAINESVILLE — Lauren Teasley scored 22 points and Sadie Roach poured in 17 to lead Gainesville past Therrell, 54-38, in the Chicken City Classic Showcase at home. 

After an eight-point first quarter, the Red Elephants exploded for 21 points, behind a stingy defense, to take a 29-14 lead at the half. In the second, the Gainesville outpaced Therrell, 25-14. 

The Red Elephants ended the game with 18 steals

They will play host to South Forsyth on Tuesday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at home. 


NORCROSS 56,
FLOWERY BRANCH 41

The Falcons struggled to find the basket in the second quarter in the loss to Norcross on Tuesday in the Dacula Tipoff Tournament. 

After ending the opening period tied at 13, Norcross outshot the Falcons 20-8 in the second to take a 33-21 at the break. The quarter ended up being the major difference in the game. 

Shaina Kriews scored 20 points to lead the Falcons and Ashlee Locke had 15. 

Flowery Branch will play Grayson on Tuesday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Dacula. 


CHEROKEE 61,
DAWSON COUNTY 26

Cherokee smothered the Tigers in the second round of the Raider Classic Thanksgiving tournament at North Forsyth on Monday. 

The Warriors held Dawson to just 14 points through three quarters while scoring 39 points to run away with the win. 

Dawson County had eight players in the scoring column but none in double digits. Maddie Anglin, Marlie Townley and Sophia D'Oliveira all had 6 points to lead the Tigers. 

Dawson will play Brookwood in the consolation game on Tuesday at North Forsyth. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.


RABUN COUNTY 60, 
LAKEVIEW 53

Lakeview took the lead with 3 minutes left, 52-50, but couldn't hold on in the loss to Rabun County in the Piedmont Hardwood Classic at Piedmont College.

Joelle Snyder led the Lions with 17 points, while Eliza Snyder turned in 12 points and 5 steals. Ellie Kate Madonna had 10 points and Jackie Allen and Maddy Towles each had 7 points. 

The Lions will play the loser of the Habersham/East Hall game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Piedmont.


BUFORD 66,
VALDOSTA 37

Tate Walters scored 17 points to lead the Wolves past Valdosta in the semifinals of the Dacula Tipoff Tournament on Monday. 

12 other Wolves tossed in points in the blow-out win. 

Buford will play Wesleyan in the championship game on Tuesday. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
