GDOT: Concrete being poured on Exit 14 bridge at I-985 this week

By AccessWDUN Staff
The exit and entrance ramps at the new Exit 14 on I-985 opened on September 3, but the overpass bridge is not usable just yet.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will be working on re-pouring the surface two days this week - Tuesday and Thursday.

"Work will begin at 7 a.m. until noon on both Tuesday and Thursday. This work will complete the remaining spans that required replacement due to a materials issue," said GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland in a news release.

During an inspection earlier this year, the original surface was determined not to be strong enough for travel, so GDOT had to remove the surface and start over.

No lane closures will be required for this work, but drivers along I-985 will see work ongoing on the overpass and concrete trucks in the work zone.

"After these two spans of the bridge's driving surface are completed, testing will be done and then additional work to construct the barrier wall will be scheduled, Strickland said.
