*The U S Army Corps of Engineers will hold a deer hunt near Buford Dam November 19-21. For public safety, the following areas will be closed during the hunt: the Laurel Ridge Trail, Sawnee Campground, West Bank Park, Lower Pool West Park, Lower Overlook Park, Lower Pool East Park, Buford Dam Park, East Bank Park, Lanier Park, Burton Mill Park, and Chestnut Ridge Campground. This is an archery-only, management hunt.

*Jackson Electric Membership Corporation is accepting applications for the annual Washington Youth Tour, sponsored by the nation’s electric cooperatives. *Wind ensemble fans have two opportunities to hear music by large and small groups November 17 and November 19 at the Piedmont College Chapel. The Wind Ensemble Partnership Concert will be 4 p.m., Sunday, November 17. Directed by Vicki Pinson, the concert will feature performances by the Piedmont Wind Ensemble and musicians from five area high schools.  The Piedmont Chamber and Wind Ensembles will perform 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 19. Both concerts are free.

*The Arts Council of Gainesville announces two performances in its 2020 Signature Series:  Artrageous, Jan. 19, and Catapult, Feb. 16.   Click here for tickets or call 770.534.2787.

*The public is invited to the University of North Georgia Gainesville Campus Monday at noon to hear former Gov. Nathan Deal discuss his lifetime in the public arena, not only as governor, but also as a member of Congress, state senator, judge, and prosecutor, as well as his military service.  Deal also plans to take questions from the audience.   He will appear at the Continuing Education Building, sponsored by the Politically Incorrect Club.

*State Rep. Terry Rogers of Clarkesville was one 18 people sworn in by Gov. Brian Kemp this week to serve on the Georgia Film, Music, and Digital Entertainment Commission.

*Alto will use a federal grant to purchase three new police cars.   The Department of Agriculture is investing $394 million to improve “critical community facilities” in 28 states and Puerto Rico. USDA is making the investments through the Community Facilities Direct Loan Program.  Alto is getting $70,400.  A complete list of the grant recipients can be found here.

*Three original films produced by Gainesville High School’s Digital Media and Film team won top awards at the annual Rome International Film Festival in Rome, Georgia, on November 7.  The films Mislaid, Tartarus, and Hammerhands earned first-, second-, and third-place respectively in the senior division of the festival’s Student Academy Film Contest. The festival features films and filmmakers from around the world.
