SUWANEE - A multi-vehicle accident has claimed the life of a 16-year-old driver.
No identities have been released at this time but Suwanee Police Lieutenant Robert Thompson said in a media release that at approximately 1:07PM, Sunday, units from the Suwanee Police Department arrived on scene of the fatal accident involving multiple vehicles on McGinnis Ferry Road near Scales Road.
Thompson said a male driver of a red Dodge pickup truck struck multiple vehicles before swerving into the private drive of an apartment complex located at 4025 McGinnis Ferry Road, where it struck a Nissan Pathfinder broadside as it was stopped, waiting to exit the complex.
Lt. Thompson said after striking several cars along the side of the road,"...he lost control of his vehicle, swerving out of his lane and hitting her vehicle."
The 16-year-old female driver of that vehicle died as a result of the crash.
Thompson adds that Suwanee Police along with the assistance of the Lilburn Accident Investigation Unit are trying to reconstruct the incident and determine the cause of the accident.
Family of the deceased driver has been notified and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Lt. Thompson said, "It was a 47-year-old male that was driving the vehicle," when asked if the identity of the Dodge pickup driver was available. His name was not released; he was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life threating injuries according to Thompson.
